Excursion to the Hill Monastic Manuscript Library at St. John's University, Collegeville
The Hill Manuscript Library is hosting a day at Saint John's University on Sunday, April 13, 2003. The Hill Manuscript Library offers the largest collection of microfilmed manuscripts in the world (over 90,000 and growing). It also has a small but exquisite manuscript collection of its own.

One bus will depart from the Radisson Hotel at 9:00 for those who would like to attend 10:30 Palm Sunday Mass at the spectacular Abbey Church with the monastic community. All are welcome. A second bus will depart at 10:00. Visitors may spend time with the Library's dynamic staff and members of the academic community, exploring informally the natural and the institutional setting of the library. Lunch will be served at noon in the Alumni Lounge. Please sign up for the excursion on your registration material and include appropriate payment.

During lunch, the Director and the Associate Director will give brief presentations regarding the scope, content and resources for using the collection. After lunch, visitors from the Academy will be invited to an open forum for discussion of the Library’s new initiatives: expanding its scope to include the Eastern Mediterranean, as well as Europe and Russia; engaging the opportunities offered by digital and web technology; and collaborating more actively with libraries and scholars producing electronic scholarship.

Buses will return to Minneapolis, departing Collegeville at 2:00 and 3:00. The trip takes about 90 minutes. The cost for this excursion, including lunch and bus transportation, is $40 per person.
